Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD80 (B7-1), a 60 kDa single-chain type I glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin supergene family. CD80 is expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and activated B lymphocytes.
Target Information
CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2) are ligands for the T cell costimulatory molecule CD28 and the inhibitory receptor CTLA-4 (CD152). These molecules are essential for T cell activation and can substitute for each other. CD80 expression is rapidly induced on activated B cells, EBV-transformed B cell lines, Burkitt’s lymphoma cell lines, follicular B lymphoma cells, T cells, and monocytes. CD80 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
