Target Information
The HSP70 family consists of highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat stress. Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible and constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: 72 kDa protein induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70 (HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73): Constitutively expressed, slightly heat-inducible protein involved in clathrin-coated vesicle uncoating and cytoskeletal interactions
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum
- p75 (HSP75): 75 kDa mitochondrial protein
HSC70 promotes uncoating of clathrin-coated vesicles, binds cytoskeletal components, stimulates lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins, and modulates mitochondrial precursor protein folding.
