Target Information
The serum amyloid A (SAA) family includes several apolipoproteins such as acute-phase SAA1 and SAA2, with SAA1 being the major plasma component. Although primarily synthesized in the liver, extrahepatic production has been observed. In vivo concentrations can increase up to 1000-fold during inflammation. SAA plays a crucial role in disease diagnosis and monitoring, often rising earlier and more sharply than CRP. Recent studies have expanded the understanding of SAA expression and function.
