Target Information
SP1 is a transcription factor that can activate or repress transcription in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. It binds with high affinity to GC-rich motifs and regulates the expression of numerous genes involved in processes such as cell growth, apoptosis, differentiation, and immune responses.
It is highly regulated by post-translational modifications including phosphorylation, sumoylation, proteolytic cleavage, glycosylation, and acetylation. SP1 also binds the PDGFR-alpha G-box promoter and may play a role in modulating the cellular response to DNA damage. It is implicated in chromatin remodeling and is essential for the regulation of FE65 gene expression.
