This antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

The steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) protein facilitates the movement of cholesterol from the outer to the inner mitochondrial membrane in adrenal and gonadal cells, promoting steroid biosynthesis.
MLN64 is a 445-amino acid protein of unknown function. When the 218 amino-terminal residues of MLN64 are deleted, the resulting N-218 MLN64 shows 37% amino acid identity with StAR and retains 50% of StAR’s steroidogenic activity in transfected cells.
Bacterially expressed N-218 MLN64 demonstrates StAR-like activity, promoting cholesterol transfer between mitochondrial membranes in vitro. The protein contains both a protease-resistant and a protease-sensitive domain, similar to StAR, but unlike StAR, MLN64 does not enter mitochondria. Thus, its protease-resistant domain cannot function as a mitochondrial pause-transfer sequence.
