Target Information

The CD204 (MSR1) gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three isoforms (types 1, 2, and 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are involved in physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.

• Type 1 and 2 isoforms: Functional receptors mediating endocytosis of modified LDLs.
• Type 3 isoform: Lacks endocytosis capability due to altered intracellular processing, retained in the endoplasmic reticulum, and can inhibit type 1 and 2 function (dominant negative effect).
  Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett’s Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
