This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD54 (ICAM-1), an 85–110 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein that serves as a receptor for rhinovirus. Expression of CD54 is upregulated upon cell activation and is found on activated endothelial cells, T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, and dendritic cells.

Target Information

ICAM-1 (CD54) is an 85–110 kDa single-chain type I integral membrane glycoprotein with an extracellular domain composed of five immunoglobulin superfamily repeats, a transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic domain. It has seven potential N-linked glycosylation sites and shares homology with ICAM-2 (CD102) and ICAM-3 (CD50).
ICAM-1 binds to integrins CD11a/CD18 (LFA-1) or CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1) and serves as a receptor for rhinovirus. It is expressed by activated endothelial cells and detectable on epithelial cells, fibroblasts, chondrocytes, B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils. Expression increases upon inflammation and is also found in some carcinoma and melanoma cells. Soluble ICAM-1 is detectable in plasma and elevated in various inflammatory conditions.
