This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD54 (ICAM-1), an 85–110 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein that serves as a receptor for rhinovirus. It is expressed on activated endothelial cells, T and B lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, and dendritic cells. Expression of CD54 is upregulated upon activation.
Target Information
ICAM-1 (CD54) is an 85–110 kDa single-chain type I integral membrane glycoprotein composed of five extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains, a transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic domain. It contains seven potential N-linked glycosylation sites and shares sequence homology with ICAM-2 (CD102) and ICAM-3 (CD50). ICAM-1 binds integrins CD11a/CD18 (LFA-1) and CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1) and acts as a receptor for rhinovirus. It is expressed on activated endothelial cells, epithelial cells, fibroblasts, chondrocytes, and various immune cells, with expression increasing during inflammation. Soluble ICAM-1 is found in plasma and elevated in inflammatory conditions.
