Target Information
Caspase-12 is involved in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-induced apoptosis pathway, distinct from the death receptor and mitochondrial pathways mediated by caspase-8 and caspase-9. It is localized to the ER, activated by ER stress such as calcium homeostasis disruption, and mediates ER stress-induced cell death.
Caspase-12 is co-localized in the ER with proteins related to Alzheimer’s disease, including γ-secretase presenilin and β-amyloid precursor protein (APP), and mediates cytotoxicity induced by amyloid-beta. It is ubiquitously expressed in mouse tissues.
