Target Information
Apoptosis is related to many diseases and development. Caspase-9 plays a central role in cell death induced by a variety of apoptosis activators. Cytochrome c, after being released from mitochondria, binds to Apaf-1, forming an apoptosome that activates procaspase-9. Activated caspase-9 then triggers effector caspases (caspase-3, -6, and -7), which cleave key proteins in apoptosis.
PHAPs (putative HLA-DR-associated proteins) are important regulators of mitochondrial apoptosis. PHAP facilitates apoptosome-mediated caspase-9 activation and stimulates the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. It also opposes Ras- and Myc-mediated cell transformation.
