Caspase-12는 세포사멸(apoptosis)을 유도하는 세 가지 주요 신호 경로 중 소포체(ER) 스트레스 경로에 관여합니다.
ER 스트레스 및 칼슘 항상성 교란에 의해 활성화되며, ER 스트레스 유도성 apoptosis를 매개합니다.
Caspase-12는 ER에 국한되어 존재하며, Alzheimer’s disease 관련 단백질(γ-secretase presenilin, β-amyloid precursor protein)과 공존합니다.
Amyloid-β에 의해 유도되는 세포독성을 매개하며, 마우스 조직 전반에 발현됩니다.
