In direct ELISAs and Western blots, this antibody does not cross-react with recombinant human (rh) IL-5 R beta, rhIL-9 R, rhIL-4 R, rmIL-5 R alpha, or rhIL-13 R alpha 1.
Target Information
Interleukin 5 (IL-5) is a soluble T cell-derived factor, also known as T cell replacing factor (TRF), that induces B cell and eosinophil growth and differentiation.
IL-5 exerts its biological activity through the IL-5 receptor (IL-5R), which is composed of two chains:
- Alpha chain: binds IL-5 with low affinity
- Beta chain: does not bind IL-5 but, together with the alpha chain, forms the high-affinity IL-5 receptor
The cytoplasmic domains of both chains are essential for signal transduction. The membrane-proximal proline-rich sequence of the IL-5Rα cytoplasmic domain is critical for IL-5-induced proliferative response, nuclear proto-oncogene expression, and tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins such as JAK1 and JAK2.
