Target Information

SAP90/PSD-95-associated protein 3 (SAPAP3, also known as DLGAP3) is a member of a protein family that interacts specifically with PSD-95/SAP90, a membrane-associated guanylate kinase localized at the postsynaptic density (PSD) in neuronal cells.
SAPAP3 acts as an adaptor protein connecting synaptic scaffolding proteins, cytoskeletal elements, and signaling molecules such as focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and proline-rich tyrosine kinase 2 (PYK2).
Both SAPAP3 protein and mRNA are localized to dendrites, whereas SAPAP1, -2, and -4 mRNAs are mainly detected in cell bodies.
Research suggests SAPAP3 may play a role in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD); mice lacking SAPAP3 exhibit OCD-like behaviors that can be rescued by selective SAPAP3 expression in the striatum.
At least two isoforms of SAPAP3 are known to exist.
