Target Information
HMG20A plays a role in neuronal differentiation as a chromatin-associated protein and acts as an inhibitor of HMG20B. It counteracts the repressive effects of the neuronal silencer REST and activates neuronal-specific genes. Also involved in recruitment of histone methyltransferase KMT2A/MLL1, leading to increased methylation of histone H3 lysine 4.
