Target Information

Damaged DNA binding protein (DDB) is a heterodimer composed of two subunits, p127 and p48 (DDB1 and DDB2, respectively). The DDB heterodimer participates in repairing DNA damaged by ultraviolet light. Also known as UV-DDB, XPE-BF, or XAP-1, it binds to UV-induced cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs).
Mutations in the DDB2 gene are associated with xeroderma pigmentosum group E (XPE), an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by defective nucleotide excision repair, hypersensitivity to sunlight, and increased skin cancer risk. The hepatitis B virus X protein interacts with DDB1, potentially mediating HBx transactivation.
