The 85BRD monoclonal antibody reacts with human interleukin-13 (IL-13). IL-13 (NC30) is a 12.5 kDa protein secreted by activated T helper cells, CD8+ T cells, and NK cells.
Biological activities include:

• Suppression of macrophage cytotoxic activity
• Upregulation of IL-1RA expression
• Suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression

Applications Reported: Intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and validated using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product # 88-8824-00) and BestProtocols® Protocol A: Two-step protocol for cytoplasmic proteins.

Use at 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test.
A test is defined as the amount of antibody that stains a cell sample in a final volume of 100 µL (typically 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Target Information

IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced by activated Th2 cells, regulating inflammatory and immune responses.
Functions include:

• Down-regulation of macrophage activity
• Inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine and chemokine production
• Involvement in allergen-induced asthma (IgE-independent mechanism)
• Regulation of B cell maturation and differentiation
• Up-regulation of CD23 and MHC class II expression
• Promotion of IgE isotype switching

Structurally, IL-13 resembles IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, and GM-CSF.
The IL-13 gene is part of a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, closely located near IL4.
