The eBioJM7A4 monoclonal antibody reacts with the IL-15 receptor alpha chain (IL-15Rα).
IL-15 and IL-2 are cytokines with overlapping but distinct biological effects, sharing IL-2Rβ and γ chains for signal transduction.
IL-15Rα binds IL-15 with ~1,000-fold higher affinity than IL-2Rα binds IL-2.
Three spliced IL-15Rα variants in humans can all bind IL-15 with high affinity.
The cytoplasmic domain of IL-15Rα is dispensable for mitogenic signaling, suggesting its main role is high-affinity ligand binding.
At high concentrations, IL-15 can signal through IL-2Rβ and IL-2Rγ even without the α subunit.

Target Information

Interleukin 15 receptor alpha (IL-15RA) is a cytokine receptor that binds IL-15 with high affinity.
It regulates T and NK cell activation and proliferation.
IL-15RA shares IL-2Rβ and IL-2Rγ subunits with IL-2R, but unlike IL-2RA, IL-15RA can bind IL-15 independently.
IL-15RA enhances cell proliferation and expression of apoptosis inhibitors such as Bcl-xL and Bcl-2.
