Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with CD14, a 53–55 kDa GPI-linked extracellular membrane glycoprotein expressed on the surface of monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes; also expressed by most tissue macrophages.
For Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin), heat retrieval of antigen is recommended.
Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. CD14 binds lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in conjunction with lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), facilitating immune recognition of bacterial components.
Soluble CD14 (sCD14) can distinguish structural differences in LPS and contributes to neutralization of serum lipopolysaccharides. CD14 also binds apoptotic cells and is involved in allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same CD14 isoform.
Diseases associated with CD14 dysfunction include Mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup.
