Product Specific Information
1 µg/mL of MA5-45660 was sufficient for detection of Protocadherin gamma (pan) in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects approximately 100 kDa. Cross-reacts with all Gamma-protocadherin-A, -B and -C proteins.
This antibody was formerly sold as clone S159-5.
Target Information
The protocadherin gamma gene cluster is one of three related clusters tandemly linked on chromosome five. These clusters exhibit an immunoglobulin-like organization, suggesting a novel regulatory and expression mechanism.
The gamma gene cluster includes 22 genes divided into 3 subfamilies:
- Subfamily A: 12 genes
- Subfamily B: 7 genes and 2 pseudogenes
- Subfamily C: 3 genes
Each variable region exon encodes the extracellular domain with 6 cadherin ectodomains and a transmembrane region, while the constant region encodes the shared cytoplasmic domain. These neural cadherin-like adhesion proteins likely play a critical role in establishing and maintaining specific neuronal connections in the brain. Alternative splicing has been described for the gamma cluster genes.
