Product Specific Information
1 µg/mL of MA5-45661 detects Protocadherin gamma (pan) in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody. Detects ~100 kDa. Cross-reacts with all Gamma-protocadherin-A, -B, and -C proteins.
This antibody was formerly sold as clone S159-5.
Target Information
The protocadherin gamma gene cluster is one of three related clusters tandemly linked on chromosome five. These clusters have an immunoglobulin-like organization, suggesting a unique regulatory mechanism. The gamma cluster includes 22 genes divided into 3 subfamilies:
- Subfamily A: 12 genes
- Subfamily B: 7 genes and 2 pseudogenes
- Subfamily C: 3 genes
Each variable region exon encodes extracellular and transmembrane domains, while constant region exons encode a shared cytoplasmic region. These neural cadherin-like adhesion proteins are critical for specific cell-cell connections in the brain. Alternative splicing has been observed in gamma cluster genes.
