This antibody recognizes Pekin duck CD4, shown to be expressed by thymocytes, splenocytes, and peripheral lymphoid cells.
While most avian immune studies have focused on chickens, relatively little is known about the duck immune system. However, ducks share similar main lymphoid organs — the spleen, thymus, and bursa of Fabricius — with chickens.

Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV.
CD4 is primarily expressed in a subset of T-lymphocytes (T helper cells) but can also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
At the tissue level, CD4 expression is detected in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut.
Functionally, CD4 helps initiate or enhance early T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck.
It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious or immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified for this gene (RefSeq, July 2017).
