Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor that inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It modulates ATP1A1 promoter activity depending on cDNA quantity and cell type, represses E-cadherin promoters, and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by recruiting SMARCA4/BRG1.
ZEB1 also represses BCL6 transcription in the presence of CTBP1, positively regulates neuronal differentiation, and represses RCOR1 activation during neurogenesis.
Mutations in this gene can cause corneal dystrophy (posterior polymorphous) and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy type 6.
