Target Information

TRPA1 is a TRP-related ion channel responsive to cold temperatures and pungent compounds, involved in nociceptor and hair cell transduction. It is associated with transformation in lung epithelial cells and primarily expressed in sensory neurons. Blocking TRPA1 may serve as a therapeutic approach for cold hyperalgesia due to inflammation or nerve injury. TRPA1 is also expressed outside the CNS and is dysregulated during oncogenic transformation. Its structure shares similarity with ankyrin and transmembrane proteins, suggesting roles in signal transduction and growth control.
