Target Information

Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been identified in various tumors, including anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. The most common alteration is chromosomal rearrangement, producing a fusion gene between ALK and the nucleophosmin (NPM) gene. The NPM-ALK fusion gene product is oncogenic. ALK encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane and extracellular domain, which are absent in the transforming NPM-ALK product. ALK shares high sequence similarity with LTK and plays an important role in neuronal development.
