1 µg/mL of MA5-45230 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin in 10 µg of HeLa lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 10 kDa.

Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein involved in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein. The gene encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C terminus. Post-translational processing generates free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a, a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Ribosomal protein S27a contains C4-type zinc finger domains and is localized in the cytoplasm. Pseudogenes derived from this gene are present in the genome. Ribosomal proteins L40 and S30 are also synthesized as fusion proteins with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins.
