1 µg/mL of MA5-45232 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin in 10 µg of HeLa lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 10 kDa.

Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein with a major role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein. This gene encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C terminus. When expressed in yeast, the protein is post-translationally processed to generate free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a. Ribosomal protein S27a is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit and contains C4-type zinc finger domains located in the cytoplasm. Pseudogenes derived from this gene are present in the genome. Similar to ribosomal protein S27a, ribosomal proteins L40 and S30 are also synthesized as fusion proteins with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
