Target Information

Nitric oxide (NO) is an inorganic, gaseous free radical that mediates various intercellular signals such as vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity.
NO production is catalyzed by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzymes, which oxidize L-arginine to L-citrulline and NO.
There are three NOS isoforms:

  • Neuronal NOS (nNOS, type I)
  • Endothelial NOS (eNOS, type III)
  • Inducible NOS (iNOS, type II)

All NOS isoforms contain calmodulin, NADPH, FAD, and FMN binding domains.
