Product Specific Information

This antibody is predicted to react with bovine, canine, chicken, human, mouse, non-human primate, and zebrafish based on 100% sequence homology.

In Western blot, this antibody detects a ~180 kDa protein representing NMDAR NR2B-subunit phosphorylated at Tyr1472. It also labels proteins of approximately 65 kDa and 115 kDa.
Immunolabeling is completely blocked by either lambda phosphatase or the phosphopeptide antigen, but not by the corresponding dephosphopeptide.

Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors.
NMDA receptors (NMDAR) are involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in synaptic transmission efficiency related to memory and learning.

NMDAR2B plays a role in neuronal development and has been implicated in several CNS disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death.
Overexpression of the NR2B subunit is associated with enhanced learning and memory, whereas aged or memory-impaired animals show reduced NR2B expression.

Phosphorylation of Tyr1472 on NR2B may increase NMDAR expression at the synapse, contributing to synaptic plasticity.
NMDAR2B forms part of a heterotrimeric receptor complex composed of NR1, NR2, and NR3 subunits.
Dysfunction of NMDAR2B is associated with epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant 6-related intellectual disability.
