Product Specific Information

OPA1-10080 detects p38 from human, mouse, and rat samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects an approximately 38 kDa protein representing p38 from HeLa whole cell lysates.
The immunizing peptide corresponds to the carboxy terminal region of mouse p38.


Target Information

The p38 MAPK cascade regulates various cellular responses to stress, inflammation, and other signals.
p38 MAPK is relatively inactive in its nonphosphorylated form and becomes rapidly activated by dual phosphorylation of a Thr-Gly-Tyr motif.
There are four isoforms of p38 MAPK, differing in tissue expression and affinity for upstream activators and downstream effectors.
Upon exposure to tumor necrosis factor, interleukin-1, heat shock, or other stimuli, MAPK kinase-3 becomes phosphorylated and activates MAPK kinase-3/6, which in turn phosphorylate Thr180 and Tyr182 residues in p38 MAPK.
Activated phospho-p38 MAPK then phosphorylates transcription factors such as ATF-2, CHOP-1, and MEF-2.
