In Western blot, this antibody detects a ~57 kDa protein representing the GABA-A R alpha 6 subunit in rat brain lysate.
The immunogenic sequence has no homology with any other GABA-A receptor subunits.

Target Information

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, causing hyperpolarization of the membrane through the opening of a Cl⁻ channel associated with the GABA-A Receptor (GABA-A R) subtype.
GABA-A Rs are important therapeutic targets for sedative, anxiolytic, and hypnotic agents, and are implicated in diseases including epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.
The GABA-A R is a multimeric subunit complex composed of multiple alpha, beta, and gamma subunits, including splicing variants.
Expression of alpha and beta subunits results in functional GABA-A Rs sensitive to GABA, while coexpression of a gamma subunit is required for benzodiazepine modulation.
Phosphorylation of beta subunits has been shown to modulate GABA-A R function.
