Target Information
TRAIL (CD253) is a cytokine belonging to the TNF ligand family. It preferentially induces apoptosis in transformed and tumor cells but not in normal cells, despite expression in most normal tissues. TRAIL interacts with TNF receptor superfamily members including TRAILR1, TRAILR2, TRAILR3, TRAILR4, and possibly OPG.
Binding of TRAIL to its receptors activates MAPK8/JNK, caspase 8, and caspase 3 pathways. Receptors include death domain-containing DR4 and DR5, and decoy receptors DcR1 and DcR2 lacking intracellular signaling domains. TRAIL is a type II membrane protein expressed in various human tissues and induces apoptosis and NF-κB activation.
