Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions at the site of synthesis, likely playing a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG has been shown to reduce HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency elevates HDL cholesterol in animals. LIPG exhibits phospholipase activity and may be involved in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It belongs to the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region that confers substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, and is essential for efficient digestion of dietary fats, with the ability to bind to heparin.
