Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis. LIPG modulates lipoprotein metabolism, influencing HDL cholesterol levels — overexpression reduces HDL, while deficiency elevates HDL in animals. It exhibits phospholipase activity and plays a role in vascular biology. LIPG belongs to the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region conferring substrate specificity. As a carboxyl esterase, it hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in dietary fat digestion, and binds to heparin.
