Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis. LIPG plays a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, whereas deficiency elevates HDL levels in animals. It has substantial phospholipase activity and may be involved in vascular biology and lipid metabolism. LIPG is a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes HDL, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in dietary fat digestion, and can bind to heparin.
