This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD54 (ICAM-1), an 85–110 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein that serves as a receptor for rhinovirus. Expression of CD54 is upregulated upon activation and is found on activated endothelial cells, T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, and dendritic cells.
Western Blot: non-reducing conditions.
Immunohistochemistry (paraffin sections): positive tissue includes thymus and RE cells.

Target Information

ICAM-1 (CD54) is an 85–110 kDa single-chain type I integral membrane glycoprotein with an extracellular domain of five immunoglobulin superfamily repeats, a transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic domain. It has seven potential N-linked glycosylation sites and shares sequence homology with ICAM-3 (CD50) and ICAM-2 (CD102).
ICAM-1 binds integrins CD11a/CD18 (LFA-1) and CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1), and serves as a receptor for rhinovirus. It is expressed by activated endothelial cells, epithelial cells, fibroblasts, chondrocytes, B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils, with levels increasing during inflammation. ICAM-1 is also found in certain carcinoma and melanoma cells. Soluble ICAM-1 is detectable in plasma and elevated in inflammatory syndromes.
