Target Information
TRPA1 is a TRP-related channel that responds to cold temperatures and pungent compounds, playing roles in nociceptor and hair cell transduction. It is a transformation-associated gene product in lung epithelia, with protein distribution primarily in sensory neurons. Blocking TRPA1 may help treat cold hyperalgesia caused by inflammation and nerve damage. TRPA1 is also expressed outside the CNS and is dysregulated during oncogenic transformation. Its structure is related to ankyrin and transmembrane proteins, and it may function in signal transduction and growth control.
