Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using epitope-specific immunogen. Purity >95% by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
The cystatin superfamily comprises cysteine protease inhibitors.
- Type 1 (Cystatins A, B): Mainly intracellular
- Type 2 (Cystatins C, D, E/M, F, G, S, SN, SA): Extracellular
- Type 3 (Kininogens): Intravascular proteins
All true cystatins inhibit papain family cysteine peptidases (e.g., cathepsins) and some also inhibit legumain family enzymes.
Cystatin SA, S, and SN are found primarily in saliva and also expressed in tears, urine, and seminal fluid.
Cystatin C is expressed in brain, thymus, ovary, epididymis, and vas deferens.
Cystatin D protects against oral cavity proteinases, while Cystatin E/M and F moderate cathepsin inhibition.
Fetuins, part of the cystatin superfamily, influence osteogenesis, bone resorption, insulin receptor regulation, and inflammatory responses.
High and low molecular weight kininogens inhibit thrombin- and plasmin-induced thrombocyte aggregation.
