Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme protein synthesized during myeloid differentiation and a major component of neutrophil azurophilic granules. It is initially produced as a single-chain precursor, then cleaved into light and heavy chains. The mature MPO forms a tetramer composed of two light and two heavy chains. MPO generates hypohalous acids essential for neutrophil microbicidal activity.
Diseases associated with MPO include Myeloperoxidase Deficiency and Familial Alzheimer’s Disease type 1.
