PRMT1은 protein arginine N-methyltransferase (PRMT) 패밀리에 속하는 효소로, 아르기닌 메틸화 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 반응은 RNA 처리 및 수송, 수용체 매개 신호전달, 전사 조절 등 다양한 세포 기능에 관여합니다.
포유류 세포에는 최소 3종류 이상의 PRMT 효소가 존재하며, 핵 단백질, 세포주기 단백질, 신호전달 단백질, 아폽토시스 단백질 등 주요 단백질을 메틸화하여 세포 기능을 조절합니다.
PRMT1의 발현 증가는 여러 종류의 암에서 중요한 역할을 할 수 있는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
