Histone H3는 모든 진핵세포의 염색질에서 DNA와 결합하는 단백질 중 하나입니다. H3는 다른 코어 히스톤 단백질들과 함께 뉴클레오솜 구조를 형성하며, 전사 조절, DNA 복구, 복제 및 염색체 안정성 유지에 핵심적인 역할을 합니다.
히스톤 H3의 N-말단 꼬리는 다양한 번역 후 변형(post-translational modification)을 겪으며, 이러한 변형은 크로마틴 구조 변화나 전사 인자 결합에 영향을 미칩니다. 변형에는 라이신 또는 아르기닌 잔기의 메틸화, 아세틸화, 세린 또는 트레오닌 잔기의 인산화 등이 포함됩니다.
