Specificity: Recognizes the 25-kDa epsilon chain of the T-cell receptor-associated CD3 complex expressed on thymocytes, mature T lymphocytes, and NK-T cells across many mouse strains.

Target Information

The CD3 subunit complex is crucial for transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating TCR complex expression. T cell activation involves the CD3 subunits (gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta), which are structurally related members of the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded by closely linked genes on chromosome 11.
CD3 subunits have long cytoplasmic tails that associate with signaling molecules via double tyrosine-based motifs. CD3 may play roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, cell survival, and proliferation.
CD3 antigen is present on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, but not on B or NK cells. Decreased T lymphocyte percentages may occur in autoimmune diseases.
Defects in the CD3 gene are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
