Target Information
The three KINDLINs constitute a novel family of focal adhesion proteins localized to integrin adhesion sites.
Each KINDLIN protein contains a centrally located FERM domain interrupted by a pleckstrin homology (PH) domain.
KINDLIN1 and KINDLIN2 are widely expressed and play essential roles in integrin-mediated adhesion and spreading.
In contrast, KINDLIN3 expression is restricted to hematopoietic cells, particularly abundant in megakaryocytes and platelets.
Reports indicate transcriptional misregulation of KINDLINs in various cancers.
KINDLIN3 is essential for platelet integrin activation and subsequent outside-in signaling, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for modulating integrin activation in platelets and leukocytes.
