Product Specific Information

A 1:1,000 dilution of MA5-45084 was sufficient for detection of Ubiquitin in 2 µg of purified poly-ubiquitin chains (Poly-Ubiquitin: Ub1–Ub7 WT Chains K63-linked, K48-linked) by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects ubiquitinated proteins, including poly-ubiquitinated proteins (K29-, K48-, and K63-linked mono- and polyubiquitinylated proteins). Does not detect free ubiquitin.


Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that plays a central role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to another protein. The gene encodes a fusion protein with ubiquitin at the N-terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C-terminus.
Upon expression, post-translational processing generates free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a, a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit containing C4-type zinc finger domains.
Pseudogenes for this gene exist in the genome. Similarly, ribosomal proteins L40 and S30 are synthesized as fusion proteins with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins (fubi). Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
