Product Specific Information
A 1:1,000 dilution of MA5-45082 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin in 2 µg of purified poly-ubiquitin chains (Ub1–Ub7, K63-linked, K48-linked) by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects ubiquitinated proteins, including polyubiquitinated proteins (K29-, K48-, and K63-linked mono- and polyubiquitinylated proteins). Does not detect free ubiquitin.
Target Information
Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein involved in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to another protein.
The gene encodes a fusion protein with ubiquitin at the N terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C terminus. Ribosomal protein S27a, part of the 40S ribosomal subunit, contains C4-type zinc finger domains and is located in the cytoplasm. Pseudogenes derived from this gene exist in the genome.
Similar fusion patterns are found in ribosomal proteins L40 and S30, which are synthesized with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
