Product Specific Information

This 4SM95 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD4 molecule, a 55 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by thymocytes, mature T cells, and dendritic cells. CD4 binds to MHC class II molecules on antigen-presenting cells and plays a critical role in T cell development and activation. In T cells, CD4 associates with protein tyrosine kinase p56lck via its cytoplasmic tail.

Note: The 4SM95 monoclonal antibody is not recommended for immunohistochemistry of frozen mouse tissue. For such applications, use Anti-Mouse CD4 Biotin (Product #36-0041).

Applications Reported: Western blotting, IHC of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue, and microscopy.
Applications Tested: IHC of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded mouse tissue using low or high pH antigen retrieval. Recommended ≤10 µg/mL; titrate for optimal assay performance.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

CD4 is a co-receptor that recognizes MHC class II molecules and is involved in T-cell activation and HIV infection. It is primarily expressed on T helper cells but also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is detectable in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. It functions to initiate or augment early T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase. CD4 may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
