Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles responsible for protein synthesis, composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. The S6 ribosomal protein, part of the 40S subunit, belongs to the S6E family and is a major substrate for ribosomal protein kinases. Phosphorylation at multiple C-terminal serine residues is regulated by various stimuli such as growth factors and mitogens, and dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein is implicated in cell growth and proliferation through selective mRNA translation. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
