Target Information

Ribosomes catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, composed of 4 RNA species and about 80 distinct proteins. The S6 ribosomal protein is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It is a major substrate for ribosomal protein kinases, with multiple serine residues phosphorylated by different kinases. Phosphorylation is induced by various stimuli such as growth factors and mitogens, while dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein plays a role in regulating cell growth and proliferation through selective mRNA translation. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
