Target Information
Structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) and non-SMC condensin proteins form complexes involved in chromosome condensation.
The condensin I complex includes SMC2, SMC4, CAP-H, CAP-G, and CAP-D2, while condensin II contains CAP-G2, CAP-H2, and CAP-D3.
CAP-H2 (also known as NCAPH2 or kleisin beta isoform 2) is part of the condensin II complex and plays a role in activating SMC ATPases and promoting chromatin binding during mitosis.
The exact function of each non-SMC protein in activation remains to be determined.
