Target Information
Apoptosis (programmed cell death) plays major roles in development, tissue turnover, and tumor formation. PDCD4 (Programmed Cell Death Protein 4) expression increases following apoptosis onset and encodes a tumor suppressor protein often lost in breast, colon, lung, and prostate carcinomas.
PDCD4 inhibits the helicase activity of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A and AP-1-mediated transcription. Akt kinase phosphorylates PDCD4, reducing its inhibitory effect on AP-1 transactivation. Two isoforms of PDCD4 are known.
