Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with well-defined epitope (W40, R53) on CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored glycoprotein expressed on the surface of all hematopoietic cells. It is widely present on cells in all tissues. This antibody does not compete with MEM-43/5 and exhibits blocking activity.
Target Information
CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored, ubiquitously expressed inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It preserves autologous cells from complement-mediated lysis by binding complement C8 and/or C9 during MAC assembly, preventing pore formation. CD59 also functions as a low-affinity ligand for CD2, contributing to T-cell costimulation and signal transduction. Mutations in CD59 cause CD59 deficiency, leading to hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced variants have been identified.
